We're on a Mission

We believe NO child should go to bed hungry!  And, since our Chefs Table event last year, your generous support has enabled us to serve more than 800,000 meals to children at-risk of hunger in our community. 

Kids Cafe is a nationally recognized program that originated in Savannah in 1989. This program was created to provide children at-risk for hunger a nutritious evening meal along with tutoring, homework assistance and a safe haven. Participating children are served hot, balanced meals at an after-school program where they are safe and supervised during the afternoon hours. Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia works in collaboration with various non-profits and faith-based organizations at the Kids Cafe sites to provide tutors, mentors, supervision and activities for the children. 

As the pandemic crisis and school closures became a reality for Savannah, America’s Second Harvest was forced to modify our delivery model for feeding kids through this program. As a result, the Kids Cafe pivoted to Grab & Go meals at over 50 sites in local libraries, YMCAs, and community centers.  Parents could pick up a hot lunch & next day breakfast for their children daily. The overwhelming response to this model reaffirmed that Kids Cafe is a vital component and safety net for so many young lives and that the Food Bank’s fundraising efforts for this program is critical and your help is needed!
